Have you heard about...."Second Life" (Internet-based community)? |
I am a Researcher. I am not involved with this website or this social networking group. I've been living my Second Life coming up on a year now. I spend approximately 8 hours per day in the game (up to 14 on a weekend), mostly either socializing, buillding, sight-seeing or shopping. i have a second life. it's to hard to control and i did'nt get any help even though i asked many time so i have'nt been back.i have heard of people making a lot of money from it. I like the ability to move past more conservative viewpoints that are present in our conservative liberal society. It is nice to mingle with your own generation. and be guided by those that profess a rather left leaning relaxed attitude. i really enjoy the fact that the citizens can build whatever they want on their property. It is friendly towards gay people and minorities. It is friendly towards ravers and rave culture and the techno ambience is astounding. There are thousands of places you could visit and thousands more that you will never have access too. The updates are a real pain though and I fear that my citizenship could be terminated by a faulty update. It updates every two weeks requiring a download. That is why I don't think i will ever buy land there as the updates exhibit complexities and run arounds and different modes of thinking to solve the problem. I would be very mad if I owned land and had to pay 78 a month US to linden labs and have the update completely ruin my virtual existence. Linden labs is not run by a democratically elected staff. It answers to no one and is highly secretive. There exists a virtual army of players that would like to see second life handed to the creators of the game and it's intellectual property. I enjoy the rave culture. and i enjoy the fact that it is not paid airtime. You can shop when you please and there are alot of options to customize your character. different moves, dances, poses, gestures, particles, etc. I really enjoy most of my time on there but hate the fact that the occasional griefer/troll comes along and ruins the fun by locking you in a cage or calling you names based on the fact that your hair is pink. I like some of the people I have met and have cycled through the losers as well. |
