American Capitalism is the ultimate Ponzi scheme. For each of the four remaining Walton heirs to enjoy their billions, millions of human beings have to suffer abysmal poverty. Certainly, there are the occasional members of the Proletariat who infiltrate the exclusive world of the Bourgeoise, but they are so few and far between that they pose little threat to the dominance of the filthy rich resting at the pinnacle of the pyramid. Besides, thanks to Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy and the inevitable repeal of the inheritance tax, America's wealthy elite will be further insulated from threats to their virtual monopoly on excessive wealth.

It is small wonder that so many of America's elite genuflect to Ronald Reagan and want to see his countenance emblazoned on the ten dollar bill. Reagan dropped a nuke on labor in the ongoing class war when he fired the PATCO air traffic controllers in 1981. When Reagan took office, union membership was 23%, down from its 35% peak in the 1950's.

Corporate America doesn't care what color your collar is. Human beings are commodities to them, and if an employee's existence is too costly, they eliminate them. Illegally firing employees who try to unionize, hiring temps to replace full-time employees (to eliminate paying those damn benefits), replacing seasoned employees with fresh college grads, and "off shoring" American jobs to exploit cheap labor in other nations exemplify the new paradigm in American business. While corporate profits soar at an annual clip of 30%, employee wages crawl upward at an average of 2%. Meanwhile, CEO's earn an average of over 400 times that of their employees.

It is a sad thing, but shows you how gullible the average American is.

I agree, the rich of our nation, and truly any nation, stay that way by assuring the millions of their countrymen will never be able to afford adequate housing or health care for their children.

Think about the great depression, some big wigs up at the top got greedy and ran the economy off a cliff, did the rich suffer? No, it was the little people who suffered. That is why FDR was elected, that was why we started to see Unions and Federal reguations for workplaces (you know, so people don't get locked inside burning factories).

Now the rich and their mouthpeices are trying to sell the lie that Unions are "bad" for America, It really makes me want to punch someone in the face. If it weren't for Unions we would still be using horse-drawn carriages while the rich cruised around in automobiles. Sure unions, like all organizations, have their bad eggs, but compare that to the routine misdeeds of the upper class and its really no contest.

Yes anyone voting party lines there is no way you and every politic an of a party have the same thoughts and morals. You might as well be a communist as to vote for a certain party just because it is what you feel is your party. Think about this all through history the way to win any battle or to get a resolve in your favor was to divide and conquer now apply this rational of thinking to the parties of government. The United States was first formed as a social government but it failed due to not having what the people needed that is how free government was started and then it flourished so in conclusion you are asking for the people who worked the hardest and use their head to get ahead to be punished for it.

If a person chooses to be republican, is fine. It is their choice.
Maybe they value the conservative ideals of the republican party and the capitalist aspect does not concern. Democrats are capitalists also. Pelosi and her massive construction companies should be a clue to you.

Your's is a question I've asked myself for years. But I cannot understand the middle class voting Republican, either. Let's face it both Parties are run by politicians who more than likely have lost touch with how the middle class lives. Our standard of living has dropped so far that for the first time ever, our children no longer can assume they will have it better than their parents did. In fact, the contrary is true in that many families live bellow the standard they grew up in. BUT, when comparing dems to reps, you have to take into consideration where their motivation comes from. Most politicians' motivation come in the form of campaign contributions and since the current political system requires candidates to prostitute themselves to special interest groups, those groups actually possess more power than "the middle class." However, when you look at which special interest groups team up with democrats vs. the ones which team up with republicans, it is the former which [usually] represent the needs of the middle class. Union leaders used to be a MAJOR force in that candidates did just about anything to be the "endorsed" candidate because they knew the rank and file would most likely vote for who their union said was the best candidate. More often than not, unions back Democrats, and that is one major reason Republicans like Ronald Reagan spent so much energy on destroying them. (The other reason was because the absence of unions means more money in the pockets of the upper echelon and less in the workers).

After the 1980's the Republicans realized they needed something to win back the working class and they were quite successful in their campaign to do so. They followed Reagan's lead and wrapped themselves so tightly in Old Glory they became impermeable to criticism. They also successfully took over the media by cow-towing to media mogul's whims and desires. And, they realized early on that they could be puppeteers to the American Middle Class by representing them on social issues like abortion, flag burning, and same sex marriages.

Democrats, on the other hand have difficulty agreeing on social issues and that is why it is difficult for a strong front runner to build enough steam to get to the top of the mountain.

And moderate Republicans, like senator John McCain, sway waaay to the right to get the backing of the republican party. Republicans politicians are much more likely to tow the party line than Democrats.

I have always wondered the same thing. Why would people so strongly support the very same system that holds them down? It makes absolutely no sense. It's totally a government conspiracy. They want nothing more than for Americans to stay poor and to pay more attention to the NFL and American Idol than politics. Then, Republican candidates use issues like abortion and gay rights to make the poor (and often very religious) vote for them. It's sick.

You have to look back in history just 75 years. Today, the majority of people enjoy a lifestyle unimaginable for the common person back then. In those days, almost everyone was what we consider "poor". Most people never travelled more than a hundred miles from their hometown. International travel was just for the super rich. Today, it is commonplace.

You may be too young to remember a show with Jackie Gleeson called "The Honeymooners", but the kind of lifestyle you see in that show is exactly how many people lived back then. Today, a "common busdriver" would live in relative luxury.

Home ownership is thousands of times more common than in yesteryear. People live a very comfortable lifestyle. Most people who do not live well either suffered some huge setbacks in their life, or did not prepare themselves academically in order to get a good job, nor have the ambition or skill to start their own business.

Think of all the ambitious foreigners, such as chinese, korean, and vietnamese who came to the U.S. penniless and now own their own business. They achieved financial security because they worked hard. Most abysmal poverty is due to lack of initiative. Sometimes, it is due to mental illness or some huge crisis in that person's life, but that is where family should step in and give assistance. That is what Mormons do, and there is no real poverty among Mormons.

Capitlism, properly administered, can lift up society to heights that no other system can. As Margaret Thatcher noted, "The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples' money to spend". She should know. She was prime minister of Great Britain (and a close friend of Ronald Reagan, god love her!)
