Is it ok to lie ONLY about how long you worked for a company on your resume?

Reason I ask is because I've had too many jobs in 2007. Look at my REAL resume (most recent first):

1. Maintenance job (3 weeks): They wanted me to INVOLUNTARILY work my days off or get fired so I left.
2. Cable company/Call center (3 months): Too much work for too little pay.
3. Security guard (1 month): GREAT job, GREAT schedule, VERY crappy pay.
4. Virtual office/call center (2 months): No teamwork, family-runned business (enough said).
5. Doorman (4 months): It was a temp job, that's all.
6. Data Entry Librarian (4 months): GREAT job, GREAT schedule, not so-good pay.
7. Locksmith call center (1 year): Company shut down/relocated to Florida.
8 & 9. H&M and Bloomingdales, 1 year each.

On my resume I removed #1,3,4,5 and said I worked for the cable place longer (7 months), that was all I changed 'cuz I'm outta work right now, I need a job, if I tell the truth it'll look bad. Is this okay?

Depending on what you are planning to do next, perhaps you can focus on the skills that you used/learned from your previous jobs in your resume, say, customer relationship management (from your 2 call center related jobs).

Don't lie. As others have pointed out, your future employer may run a reference check. More important, your integrity is priceless.

Good luck in your job search.

if you are putting one of those short term jobs as references you can't lie. but if you are not, I don't see why not.

If they call the cable place right now, most likely they will verify dates of employment. You will be busted.

No, bad idea when they punch in your social security for background check it pops up, and that's the 1st thing companies look for to see if you are trustworthy. Leaving out an employment all together is fine nowadays, companies don't wanna know that time you worked for a hotdog stand for 2 weeks.

You should never lie.
