Why's there no such thing as a 'paperless office'?

Why isn't there a paperless office today? Can't we just use computer to send documents, keep all our files, and to basically use it as our document center? Why do we still have to use old and bulky paper, that's not so eco friendly?

What's stopping that dream from coming true? To me, a paperless office seems like it could be a reality today. I can't find a thing that's stopping it. To me, a paperless office would be much more convenient and efficient than it is right now. No more digging for that file, just search for it on the computer. No more killing trees, it's sent electronically. No more taking up physical spaces, it's in your computer's virtual space. It's just too good to be true.

So exactly why isn't there a paperless office today, what's stopping it, and what do you think about the 'paperless office'?

I bet there are paperless offices some places. Right now, not everyone has tablet PCs, so drawing things is much easier on paper. Laptops are also heavier than paper if you just have a couple sheets.

Basically, I think it comes down to people not caring about the environment. The thing is though that most efficiency practices are also good for saving money! We still have some CRT monitors here and CRTs use up a lot more power than LCD monitors. Unfortunately, we don't have the money in the budget to change this just yet. We will be shortly though.

a lot of companies do that, but i don't think we will ever get rid of paper all together. we can't rely on computers totally because what if a server fails? how will you get the document that you need?

I'm with you but

computers are not always reliable. but hey can't you back it up?

If you were to ask someone then they would probably say because it's to much of a hassle
