Techs please help: What is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed into a Compaq Presario 7594?

Hi! I was told a few years ago by a tech that I can install more RAM into this comp, but I don't know how much RAM can be installed into this computer.

When my family originally bought the comp, it had 64 megs of RAM already installed. It's already running on Windows XP (not the Win 98 OS it came with), and I get a "virtual memory is low message" all the time when I use a program like System Mechanic 6 and McAfee. I'm keeping the computer because it has a working copy of MS Office. Plus, when I move, I'll be able to take the Compaq with me. After I move, I'll probably be using the Compaq for more than the Office programs.

My family has a new computer, but I can't take it with me when I move. Plus, the newer computer, an Emachine, came only with a trial version of Office, and it's much cheaper to buy RAM than to buy the new version of MS Office.

I believe that it is around the 700 range...but yeah, they come in 256, 512, and 1GB sticks (mostly), so there should be no problem with it. You only have 2 memory slots in your computer, so you should just go for a 256 MB and a 512 MB.

Hope this helps...

The maximum that system can take is 512MB. As far as Microsoft Office goes, you can install your copy on the other machine if you want, as the Office license allows an installation on two machines. (the Student and Teachers version allows 3 installations)

However, you can also just use OpenOffice. It's essentially the same thing (without Outlook though), is compatible with Microsoft Office...and it's free.

You can get it here:

UPDATED RESPONSE:

Sean S, you have no idea what you're talking about.

hahahaha u can insert as u like up to 2gb .. :-)

The total max your computer will take is 512 Megs of either PC100 or PC133 (it will run at 100 though). You already have 64 in there, you can get two DIMMs of 256 MegaBytes, but really one will do just fine to run Win XP. Remember that your machine can take 1 to 8 Megs for the video display, if you are not using a secondary display card that is. A Dimm of 256 MB will cost you less than $50, so you're better off buying the RAM, it's cheaper than MS Office. Keep your 64MB and add the 256 for a total of 310 MB of RAM less the RAM needed for video display.
The following link should help you in installing your RAM

2 sticks of 256 or 1 512pretty sure it don't go higher than that
even if it can a system that old could only get slower if you add more mem than its made for

For a start all the answers here dont tell you anything about your actual problem.
Virtual Memory has bugger all to do with ram, its all to do with your hard drive space, and the page swapping file, if this is running low on space then what you may want to do is to purchase another HDD and select windows to manage your virtual memory on the new drive, alternatively you can free up space on your hdd (For optimal performance always keep at least 15% of your total space free!) this will resolve your virtual memory error low message.
If you wish to increase your ram, find out which motherboard is on your system and do a google search, probably looking at about 2GB I wouldnt advise going out and buyin any memory until you know the boards maximum capabilities, otherwise it could be an expensive lesson, the board WILL have a maximum aperture size for memory, and may need to be set in the bios.
