IDo you think it's time for a Black President?

I pesonally have seen 2 of the strongest politcal Black Americans come forth as qualified leaders of a growing nation in Obama and Rice. Though shes not a Democrat I do believe that Condi Rice knows and has what it takes to run this Country, plus with the added experience she has under Bush's term no doubt she's more than qualified. . Obama views and political outtakes speaks volumes in it's own right. I've followed him since he was a virtual no name coming up in the political world. And during his brief term so far in office, those who follow knows that great things are yet to come from him.

But now thinking in other aspects, Is the United States as a whole ready for a Black President. ? There's still plenty of racism to go around, and regardless of who's better qualified, race will in my opinion play out in the polls. There are a lot of candidates who are very much ready and willing to run in 08, but are they the best choices we have.

First off "Jason" if you read my question instead of spouting off your racially motivated thoughts, you would have seen that i didn't choose a candidate I spoke views on both behalfs. I'm black and proud black be that as it may, And I'll support the candidate who is most qualified for the position, whether he or she be black or white or anyother race for that matter. It's little twirps like you who should be at school learning something valuable so that you may have a decent say so when intelligent questions arise instead of wasting my time and others with you ignorant and biased views on serious subjects. it's a shame you share my namesake "jason". I'm ready for a black president. Just not Condi Rice, as I think she is nothing more than a puppet of Bush and the Republicans.

Condi's pretty adamant about not running. That's too bad. I would have liked to vote for her. I'm not familiar enough with Obama to make a decision. The fact that they're black makes no difference to me. I think the US as a whole is ready. I asked my 75 year old father and he's of the same attitude.

yes I do, I think as long as the person has the guts to take on the responsibility of the President of the USA, then go for it, make the right decision for millions of people who are extremely different and have millions of different opinions and viewpoints. I could care less of the color of their skin or gender. Just as long as the person does not run his/her own political and personal agenda while in office.

I disagree with you about Rice. I would never vote for anyone who has been a part of the Bush administration. I would love to see a serious African American candidate in 2008, male or female.

Regardless of skin color or gender,the Republicans and Democrats have their own agendas. But I have to disagree with your choice of Condi Rice. I wouldn't even vote for Hillary Clinton. My choice would be Colin Powell.

Let鈥檚 focus on getting a competent President that truly represents the will of the people, and not the goals of wealthy interest groups. Secondly, let鈥檚 focus getting a President that has worldly knowledge, and therefore can engage global conflict in an intelligent manner. Would you rather have a black President who is incompetent and corrupt, or a white, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, or any other persuasion of a President who makes sound decisions that will work to this country鈥檚 betterment. Transcend racial agendas and look at what is best for the country.

Of course, if they are qualified and I think there are many who are: namely, Condi Rice.

I agree that there are several black Americans who would make great presidents and I hope it happens sometime relatively soon, but given the far right swing the country is in now, I seriously doubt that a black person (or a woman) will be elected anytime soon.

Sure, depends on who it is though. I don't think race or gender matters as much to most people these days as ideology - just witness what liberals have called conservative black people: that's all about ideology but they'll use offensive racial epithets since they have little else to offer.

I don't know enough about Obama, but I'd vote for Rice in a heartbeat.

First of all, Condi hasn't done anything but stand around and get her picture taken for the past 6 years. I doubt that anyone can name a single one of her actual accomplishments. Secondly, this is not the time for any sort of ethnic President. Within a month some right wing "christian" extremist nutjob would begin what would become a long string of assassination attempts. And the combined false accusations of both adultry, homosexualty and an assortment of criminal activity would keep any of the real issues from being dealt with. Americans aren't mature enough for a Black president because they all have it fixed in their narrow, ignorant little brains that the president is required to be an old rich white guy.

Condi would be great, but what does race have to do with anything?

..a black woman running the world's most powerful country? Whatever policies she has in mind it doesn't particularly matter - it would still look awesome and be an inspiration to the world.

But yeah, I think I know what you mean, like a black BLACK president. In South Africa whites are being hounded out of their jobs and off their land.. equality is still a long way off, is what I mean.

I only pray that we get another leader with a backbone, I hate to think where we would be now if, kerry or gore were in office. Color doesn't matter.

I like Condi--but I'd looooove to see Colin Powell run! He'd get my vote regardless of who else was running. Doesn't matter if he is black or white--the man is a smart, honorable, honest patriot and a strong leader!

I would never vote for someone because they were a certain race. I only vote for them based on their merits.

Consider this, women outnumber men in the USA and yet we have never had a woman president.
