Work-place tragedy?

I just started working at a small office. One of my coworkers lost a family member due to an extreme and sudden event- I won't go into details, but trust me, it's horrible. I really feel for her, and want to support her in any way I can. Problem is, I don't know how. I feel uncomfortable rallying around her when I am a virtual stranger, and I don't even know if my support will be welcome. On the other hand, I don't want to appear aloof and unconcerned by keeping my distance. So what do I do? And what do I say? Should I go to the funeral?

OK, forget the funeral question. How about the other questions?

during the time of sadness everyone can use some support,and sometimes it can come from a total stranger. If u don't feel like going to to funeral, send a card and try to go over to her and give your sympathy, trust me it won't hurt

Yes go to the funeral and support that person as you would any friend. It will be welcome. We are all human.
