How much should i get peid per mile if i use my car for business purposes?

I might get a job where they might send me out of town a couple of times, I dont know how many exactly but I was told by the office clerk that they might not pay me for gas just miles but that supposly they pay more than others, around 50 cents a mile, is that good.

When I say out of town I mean like 1:30 or 2 hrs. away to take pic and do virtual tours for some houses, is a real estate company.

I have a Mercedes Benz c230 gives me like 20 miles on the city and 27 hwy, and of course uses the most expensive gas! Supreme Gas

Fuel plus insurance plus wear and tear plus maintenance costs.... plus your time driving it...

$3.00 a gallon.. average car is getting 22 mpg... 13.64 cents/mile
insurance at about $100 a month... charge $3 for the day.
Wear on the car.. $20,000 car lasts about 200,000 miles.. $0.10 a mile
Maintenance can cost more per mile than wear and tear... $0.15 a mile

Its easy to justify charging $0.45 a mile for the car, plus your hourly salary for having to drive somewhere for your work.

Most people pay the IRS rate which is 48.5 cents per mile.

The going rate is about 48.5 cents per mile

Typically, companies pay by the mile. This usually covers not only gas but maint. on the vehicle as well. Figure out how many miles your car gets to the gallon, then find how much you spend per mile.

My guess is that it's well under 50 cents a mile unless you have a real gas hog.

From there, you can decide if the job is worth the travel or not.

Let me put it this way, jobs that require you to use your own car are not good jobs. You almost always get rid off. 50 cent a mile could be okay if you have a car that doesn't eat a lot of gas.

The IRS allows .42/mile as a tax deduction, so anything less would not be good. .50/mile sounds fair.

You need to check with your employer. Every company has a policy. Some companies make you turn in receipts and they reimburse you. Some companies pay what the IRS gives (about 48 cents per mile). Other set their own rates. Still others don't pay anything for gas if it is part of your job description to travel. There is no law that says employers must reimburse you for gas. Check with you manager or HR department at you job. They can give you a straight answer. Anything you get from this board would just be a guess since no one knows your company policy.
