What is virtual pc?

i have a mac.. and i bought microsoft office.. and virtual pc came with that.. and i have no idea what its for...? could anyone help me?!

virtual pc is an emulator, makes a mac look like windows so u can run windows applications, its mandatory to run office.

It's a software used to emulate Windows so you can run non Mac OS X application on your MAC.
You can also decide to install BootCamp from Apple to have the real Windows on your MAC in addition to OS X

It is a computer program which can create a special enviroment which looks like a real computer, so you can do everything in it like test software, which is very dangerous for a real computer b/c it may contain viruses.

Virtual PC is literally a software program that simulate another computer environment. It will run like any other software program, but it will physically look like another computer. Here's an example:

You have a mac, and you want to also run Linux or Windows. Once Virtual PC is installed, you use that program to install Linux or Windows. These program will "think" they are being installed as the operating system on another pc. When you launch Virtual PC and select whichever of these that you installed, you will be looking at a window showing the desktop of that operating system. You will even watch it boot up.

Why would you do this? Many reasons. Some people do this to allow themselves to use more than one operating system. Some people, like me, use this to run older operating systems so that they can run old software that won't run on modern OS's. Many IT people use this technology on servers to improve efficiency, although they are skeptical if it really helps.

Virtual PC allows to you create a PC on your computer that is run in a window. You can create DOS, Windows, Linux based PC and play around without actually changing any of your actual PC files. You can "network" between your PC and the virtual PC to transfer files, etc. Virtual PC is a good sand box, ie you can launch a virtual pc to test software or surf the net and when your done your original system is unharmed. When you start Virtual PC you'll eventually get to a window that looks like a PC boot, you'll see a bios post, then you need an ISO or CD to boot from with an operating system to install.
