Is Second Life healthy for the player's mind? |
Second Life is one of the many virtual on-line communities where one plays a role that can be different than reality. This genre of game is a profitable business. There are many studies coming out on the affects of 'virtual' anything and the effects of different Internet addictions. Though any media device can have similar effects, along with game play and a small proprtion of the population that 'cross the line' between fanatasy & reality, these forms of 'escape' are with us as any other media escape (Movies, TV, Books) given to extremes. Socialogist and anthropologist will be chronicling the effects of the digital age and mental health for years to come. It will ultimately end with the same result: "Moderation in ALL Things" with help for the ones who fall to extremism in ANY area. Second Life is pointless |
