The Sims 2 Runs VERY SLOWLY.?

My new computer is about 3 months old. The only Game I have on it is Sims 2 & exp Open for Business. I've defraged both hard drives. My hard C: drive is 80G & i've 79% free. D drive is a recovery 1 & couldn't be done properly. I've tried increasing sims priority when running, tried increasing virtual memory (maybe not enough) settings on the game are already on low. My Video card is NVIDIA Geforce 6150LE - Sims requires DirectX 9.0 compatible 32MB + & 1 T&L capable chipset: Radeon 7200, NVIDIA Geforce 2 or more. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for that Ian, - My system says 224MB, how can I change that? Its AMD sempron processor 3400+ - 991MHz and 224MD of Ram?

The video card you have is so-so. It should handle Sims 2, however.

Sims2 requires a healthy amount of RAM. It really doesn't matter what the "minimum" or even "recommended" is on the side of the box as you may have other programs running in memory along with sims2. You should have at least 1GB of ram and 2GB is probably the best bet.

If you are running this on a notebook computer, it is highly likely RAM is an issue. To free up some ram, shut down any programs you have running including virus-protection software. You can also go to START, run, type in MSCONFIG. Remove check marks on all programs that automatically load into memory at the boot sequence if you do not use them frequently (I remove ALL checkmarks).

If there is a graphics setting on Sims2, reduce the quality as well. This saves RAM and CPU, freeing up your game to run more smoothly.

If I had to wager a guess, you simply are way short on system resources starting with RAM itself.

Good luck.

That would more then likely be the RAM on your computer... You can check how much you have;

Start >> Right Click My Computer >> Properties

Then where it say something like this (This is my laptop):
Advent
Intel (R) Celeron(R) M CPU
410 @ 1.46GHz
1.47 GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

where it says the 0.99 GB of Ram that will be yours, I recomonned using 512 MB to run the SIMS but a 256 doesnt run to badly.

It's probably your memory or your processor. I say this because my old comp. had ok memory and slower processor, but wasn't good enough. I have the same games and I really upped my mem. to much higher and processor to 2-core duo and the game runs perfectly fine now. Heck, I never even knew the people were supposed to move that quickly. lol

and yes, The sims is known for sucking all the ram out of a computer. For best performance go into "Task Manager". Just remember do not stop processes that say SYSTEM or LOCAL SERVICE beside them. And do not stop processes named explorer.exe or taskmgr.exe. You can stop all other processes with a User Name except these. So when your done the only processes left with a User Name should be taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe. That should definately clear up some Memory.

I've had the same problem. I think it could just be the game!
