Shock of the Day: Bush Interior Department appointee resigns rather than face an oversight committee hearing next week. It's Julie MacDonald, deputy assistant secretary for fish, wildlife and parks at Interior. For your reference, she's the one who, in addition to sharing government reports with industry lobbyists, also shared confidential Interior Department documents with a "virtual friend" she met on an internet chat site. MacDonald reportedly commisserated with said "virtual friend" whose opinions she trusted over those of government scientists.

It used to be that I expected a new Bush White House scandal weekly, but it's rapidly approaching daily now. Just how much worse will it get before the elections in '08? Is there a Republican out there who can stop the bleeding? No, we'll have to elect a Democrat to do that, once again.

EDIT: How many of you have to keep mentioning Bill Clinton to ineptly take the heat off of Bush? Has it worked so far, no, and it isn't going to. The scandals that happened during Clinton's terms fall into two categories.

1) The scandals about his being unfaithful and being impeached over lying to a jury. This while being hounded and investigated by Gingrich for his indiscretions while Gingrich was having a hell of a time without his own wife himself.

2) The rest of them, which are only scandals because Republicans tried to make them scandals. They spent millions of dollars and wasted eight years of their and our time by chasing b.s. stories that they could never come up with enough evidence for to even get an indictment. Good job on that. Now you all act that they are foregone conclusions.

The joke that this administration is making out of our country pretty much has had me feelin like that for nearly 6 years now but YES DEFINITLEY.

What is even more jarring is the Republicans complaining that is all just a witch-hunt and invasive of privacy after all the nets they cast toward the Clinton White House...that succeeded in forcing testimony.

Not really. At this point, I'm more shocked when a week goes by and I don't hear a new scandal involving this administration.

My head exploded long ago with the scandals. If I can give you a suggestion (saw your source) make it easy and readily accessible to the neigh sayers and provide the link. I certainly am not surprised...any more life boats available?

The bad news is those bastards have been running this country into the ground for the past six years while the Republican congress looked the other way. The good news is that when faced with the prospect of having to be accountable to the American people for their actions they "cut and run". And the best news is that in two more years we will have a Democratic president and a Democratic congress, we can end Bush's folly in Iraq, and have a domestic policy that addresses American's needs for the first time since Clinton left the White House.

The Clinton admin had just as many if not more scandals. You have the impression of more in the Bush admin because the press reports on every little rumor started by the dems. There have been very few true scandals.

I bet you don't even know about Sandy Berger being caught red handed stealing national security documents from the archives, but you know every trumped up charge that is made by Pelosi and Reed.

I get a serious head rush when I hear about corruption. It reminds me of the good old days when Clinton was impeached. It's so cool that Bill is still not allowed to be a lawyer. I guess being disbarred doesn't mean much to a guy that didn't inhale, but that's another scandal...

no, people are people and make mistakes, but i did feel that way when i used to have to listen to ALL of clinton's own self-involved scandals.

What can anyone say about this joke of an administration that hasn't already been said before. Their complete incompetence and lack of any kind of common sense or integrity leaves me livid and almost speechless. I am overwhelmingly grateful that elections will be held next year.
