-- "Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions; (Full order here)
The President of the United States is granted virtual dictatorial powers in the event of a "National Emergency - which the order broadly describes as:
.."any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions;"
Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking. It's the kind of sweeping authority that only a banana republic could love. It's the kind of authority Fidel Castro operates under and which Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is working day and night to get for himself. The Mullahs in Iran already have it and, as of May 9th, George W. Bush is just a single "incident" away from having it too.
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/node/7694 in the checks and balances method of the US, Congress can impeach the president, out-vote a presidents veto, and make laws.
i dont know why Bush is making the laws. presidents are supposed to carry out the laws and enforce them, not make them! i dont think u got your preferences right... anyway, the pres. shouldn't be making the laws if he is. that would screw up the whole checks and balances method in the Constitution!!! Seriously!
But the Congress can 'veto' a bill with a majority of 2/3 of them... stop it from becoming a law... cause bush is an idiot and w/o congress he would ruin the US We need all branches of government so that they can off set one another if need be. If not you would have a totalitarium government and that would be a big no no. That's the joys of Democracy. for checks and balances, if 2/3 of congress vote against a law bush makes, they can veto it. Here is your answer. Your link proves nothing. Presidential powers are always expanded during the time of war.

"Why Do Lib Dims Say President Bush Has Too Much Power?
Any high school graduate knows the constitution gives presidents a lot of power. The executive branch has always been the most powerful branch. In the last several decades, the Supreme Court has become the most powerful branch of government (because of the ideology of Chief Justice Rehnquist).
Presidents control the military, CIA, the Justice Department, the Treasury, the Border Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security, the D.O.E., the USDA, the Health and Human Services Department, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Commerce, etc.. And presidents' powers are expanded during the time of war.
Presidents also have the right to attack other countries anytime they deem it necessary (and congress has the right to declare war). High school graduates know F.D.R. and Truman decided the outcome of World War 2, not congress. " Based on the powers given to the president in the Constitution, Bush CANNOT make laws. That is why we have three branches of government:
1. Legislative makes the laws
2. President enforces the laws
3. Supreme Court interprets the laws Bush and Cheney may still be under the illusion they can subvert the Constitution completely and establish a permanant dictatorship.
They have underestimated the American people if that is the case. There's a reason for the 2nd Ammendment tha tisn't explicitly stated in the Constitution. You have NO idea of what you are speaking about.... O.k. saying this first, Bush is a terrible president. He has, as you said, misused his power and seriously has messed up the country's governmental system.

BUSH SUCKS FUCKIN MONKEY *** The National Emergency bill is quite scary. Do you remember before 9/11 Dick Cheney (the vice president) gained power to direct military ops?
Is the govt. anticipating or preparing for another false flag like 9/11? Is that why Bush now have this power to tell US defense to stand down, or arrest disorderly people? Checks and balances. Bush cannot make laws, nor can any other President!
The President has always been the Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces because that is what has been established by Constitutional Law.
Don't believe everything you hear, especially from the media!
Look at what they have done crying about all of the violations to their Constitutional rights regarding the separation of church and state.
I'm not saying that the separation of church of state is good or bad, all I am saying is that nowhere in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, nor any of the Amendments can you find the separation of church and state being set as law.
You can't even find the term "separation of church and state" anywhere in there!
Prove ALL of your sources.
WE DO NOT LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY!!!
So, don't get so caught up in that like the media wants you to, just to further their own political agenda!
What we live under here in the U.S.A. is called a "Constitutional Republic", and always has been! If we lose Congress, the ONLY ones in the way of America being a full Dictatorship, we're screwed.
Think about it; how safe would you feel if it were only Bush running the show??? |
