Virtual PC 2007?

so i double click on virtual PC 2007 then a small box comes out where i have set up a virtual PC. Now i want to run ubuntu on that or edubuntu they are the i386 versions. So then it starts and then a DHCP then a mac address screen comes and loads then it says reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device. So i basically have a CD in there and also have the iso image on the computer saved on the desktop. How do i make this work so that i can start ubunutu or edubuntu. Like when it starts i click on CD capture ISO image and then release it immediately it didnt work and got the same message. Where can i get assistance (called MICROSOFT but never helped) also could some1 expalin to me why it doesnt work? I have vista hom premium it worked once but forgot how to do it again. I installed 32 bit version vista is also 32 bit. I want to install ubuntu or edubuntu or use it as a virtual machine.

This guy does a great job of explaining every step

This is a very technical and detailed question. You'll get better help from a tech forum for ubunutu or edubuntu.

Well, i think you might have greater success if you tried to operate Ubuntu or Edubuntu via a USB Flashdrive. This way you can have more space on your harddrive. If you want to sell computers with this software I would rather try to sell them with Ubuntu or Edubuntu on the FlashDrive b/c 10 GB hard drive is small. I would allow them to have the entire 10 GB and give a 4GB FlashDrive at around 20 or less dollars.

Microsoft's Virtual Machine supports Linux, but when you install a Operating System on a Virtual Machine, it's slow, but also try a dual boot.

From your description, I think you may have downloaded the wrong version of ubuntu (and edubuntu). You probably downloaded the LiveCD or ISO versions which run off a real or virtual CDROM.

You want to download the <regular> distro which properly installs an OS on a hard drive (does not run off a cdrom). When you launch a new VM pointing to your install files, you should see much more than just asking for network connection info, you should be asked how to partition the hard drive, a name for your new machine and more.

Note that if you install into a VM, the "hard drive partitioning" will be applied to the contents of the VHD file which is the VM's "hard drive" and not to your real hard drive.
