If my laptop is 192.168.1.101? Wireless connection.?

And I ping 192.168.1.100 and get a full reply, which freakin device is replying? I know it is not the routers address. Is that the modem IP or is it a thief, or does the virtual internet gateway get it's own IP ?

It's only laptop, modem and router, desk top is turned off, no other PCs in my network.

My Friend
you can check it it's another computer that's connected to your router:
1-From Internet explorer enter to http://192.168.1.1 (default address for most of routers)
2-enter the user name and password(if it's default you can find it in the router manual)
3-go to wireless and find the ip address that's connected if you can see the address in the connected list you can find the computer name and you can also disconnected form the wireless.
NOTE: it's better for you to change the DHCP server ip addresses and the ip address of the router ( or if you have any knowledge in networking make the address static and your PC only
or you can encrypt the connection by WAP (which you can find it in the router but not enabled)
I hope this setting will help you
with best regards

i think that its just your network pinging you back in reality you should have a ping of less than 5 on your network in a wired network it will be effectively 0
192.68.x.x is just a network address so...

If your computer is the only device you have plugged into the router, and your router is also a wireless device, there will be two live addresses, yours and your "default gateway" which in most residential routers/firewall appliances is 192.168.1.1 if you type in at the CMD prompt "ipconfig" this will tell you what your default gateway actually is. then if there is any other address that is pingable then yes someone is using your wireless connection.

the easiest way to avoid this is to activate one the wireless security options on your router.

an easy tool to use to scan your network is "angry ip scanner" just search this out on yahoo search. this will tell you what devices are live on your network.

I am able to do the same thing that you are, except I have a larger network in my house.. you can secure your wireless down to mac addresses that you want to be able to use it or there is a free download ...

PCFinder description
PCFinder - Scan your LAN for MAC Adresses and Host Names
PCFinder is a tool that will scan an IP Address range that you input, and will retrieve the MAC Addresses and Host Names of the computers that are connected to your Local Area Network.

Possible Uses:

路 Scan computers to determine if there is an unauthorized device on your
network.
路 Use to create a list of MAC Addresses to allow for Wireless Access.
路 Confirm that your networks name scheme has been followed.
路 Determine if a PC is powered on or not.
路 Locate a PC's IP Address by it's name or MAC Address.

Take a look in the wireless router's tables to see which machine is assigned to that IP.

Desktop can be turned off all day, the Ethernet card on your desktop is probably still ON.
