Which database should I use?

I am writing a HTML page that will disply data from a database I need
to know which type of database to use.
The requirements are:

1. The database will need to contain queries, be queried from within
the html page and contain relationships.
(I don't think XML will handle table relationships.)

2. The database will need to be stored client-side and therefore
accessible offline (Is ASP.NET/PHP server-side only?)

3. I don't want a message from IE6 saying that the page is insecure
like in my test version which uses VBScript to access
an Access database on my computer.

Is not a HTML page accessing a database file on my computer always a
security risk? I have seen other pages that achieve it. Such as
Google's desktop search, which has a page that opens in IE and
searches a client-side index file/database, without IE
producing any warnings. The page address looks like this
"http://127.0.0.1:4664/&s=" which I believe means that it is using a
virtual web server on port

OK,If you want to create a website that is driven through a database, and taking data from that database on a regular basis to display pages, then you first need to work out which database solution to use.
A popular combination used by many is mySQL.
If you have your own server then you'll need to install this, however if you use shared hosting services or providers then the case will probably be that it is already on your server or can be installed.
Once that is done, you should upload something called PhpMyAdmin to the server, as this will easily enable you to create and manage your tables.
Once the infrastructure is up and running, you need to create your tables which can be done without any commands through the PhpMyAdmin interface.
In terms of creating your site itself, you will then need to use simple queries to take data out of the database and if necessary put data back into the database.
In order to learn how to do this there is no substitute for buying a simple book on the subject, or alternatively reading some of the clear and excellent online tutorials.

oracle

MySql - easy to create, use and access.

1. Sql Server or Oracle (although the latter could be more expensive). If you want to go cheap do it with SQL Express.

2. ASP.NET is mostly used to server side application. it can however be used client side you just need to have an instance or IIS with the .NET framework running on the local machines.

I would think the security risk would only arise if your application was being stored on the server and made to access the database on the client machine. If your running your app on the client machine I doubt it would really matter.

For a small application that is not necessarily Enterprise level, and to keep costs down, I'd suggest MySQL.

If you are developing something more robust, perhaps SQL Server from Microsoft.

And finally, if you are developing something that is meant for a large enterprise, then possibly Oracle or Progress. There are several good enterprise-level RDBMS's.
