I just passed my road test... Now what?

I just passed my road test today and received the receipt from it. The driving instructor just printed it out, said I did all right, and said that my dad had to drive home and not me.

I am 17 years old and I lost points for:
B. Turning and Intersections - Poor judgment approaching or at intersections: Observing
E. Vehicle Control - Poor use of gears: Automatic
On the bottom it says: This receipt is your temporary license. It expires 90 days from the date of the test. This receipt must be kept with your NYS permit.
Your license will be sent to you in the mail. DO NOT go into a Motor Vehicle office.

I am currently taking driver's ed which ends April 8th. I have 4 classes left.

I am pretty sure this receipt is for my junior license, but it doesn't say anywhere on it which is it. Is it? Or am I far enough into driver's ed that it is automatically a senior license?

Assuming it is my junior license, once driver's ed ends do I get my full license right away at a DMV? Is there a wait time?

You must wait until you complete driver's education... then I BELIEVE you go into a dmv and bring your certifcate that says you've completed the driver's course. from that, i then think they'd book your request, and you'll get your Class D license in the mail. however, call your nearest dmv.

I have had mine for about 30 years so I am a bit rusty on these matters but if on the bottom it says "Your license will be sent to you in the mail."

then I would be tempted to take their word for it and just wait.

However, if they managed to lose you points on "poor use of gears" on an Automatic car, then anything's possible at all.

Personally I'd have asked the driving instructor. Or perhaps asked my dad to ask him.

The receipt is your temporary, to be carried with your permit. When the document arrives in the mail, read it and see if it says "junior license"--it probably will.

Keep in mind you have some areas of weakness you need to keep working on. In NY if memory serves, you go to full license at 18 providing there are no major tickets on your record. Check it yourself at http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/transact.ht...

If the receipt you received says DO NOT go into a Motor Vehicle office, then don't do it! Wait until you get the license in the mail and then figure it out. You should have asked the person who gave you the test or had your parent ask if you were scared.
