Does quitting marijuana lead to a temporary increase in blood pressure?

I just quit smoking dope and I went to the doctor's office and they told me my bp was 139/90 (or however the numbers are arranged). Anyway, my bp has always been pretty good as I exercise regularly and eat the right foods, so I was a little surprised. But I don't want to ask my doctor about the pot thing. Searching the Internet, I have found nothing of value on the topic.

I'm no expert but maybe if you smoked often your body is just adjusting to quitting. Also, one blood pressure reading does not really indicate a problem, its' best to average them and see if the average is in normal range. Also, if pot would relax you and you aren't smoking anymore, maybe you're a little more anxious or less laidback than usual. I would check your blood pressure everyday for a week or two, aiming to do it at the same time and relatively the same stress level, etc and then see what numbers you get. If they are borderline (140/90) is considered borderline, then let you doc know.
P.S.
There is also a thing called white coat syndrome, where your blood pressure is normal but if you are at all uncomfortable at the dr's office it will go up. All in all your's isn't real high but try to be relaxed when you take it again. Deep breaths help!

According to the NAS, the effects of marijuana on blood pressure are complex, depending on dose, administration, and posture. Marijuana often produces a temporary, moderate increase in blood pressure immediately after ingestion; however, heavy chronic doses may depress blood pressure instead. One common reaction is to cause decreased blood pressure while standing and increased blood pressure while lying down, causing people to faint if they stand up too quickly. If your blood pressure has been kept low by smoking it and you have just stopped that could cause it to rise though it may settle in time.
