How do i fight a possible benefits sanction?

I recently finished a 6 month temporary contract with a firm and have not been lucky enough to secure employment elsewhere, I spent all my savings on my rent and then had to apply for benefits in order to maintain rent payments, I have only been "signed on" for 3 days and now my local council are telling me my benefits are to be sanctioned for 26 weeks as my last emplorer has told them i left "of my own accord" I have given a copy of my contract to the benefits office and informed them that no extension to my contract was ever offered, I left under a bad cloud with my manager and i believe this is her way of extracting revenge by telling the council i left, when in fact i saw out the whole of my contract.

What recourse if any do i have? I know the easiest way is to get a job, but ive even applied to bar jobs and havn't got them and i have a masters degree! and again im sure its because my last manager is sabotaging me when it comes to giving a reference.

Tough situation. I suggest filing a grievance but since you are no longer employed that might have left you in a weaken position all together. Good luck.
