WORK IS FINISHING ME !!! is this aloud ?? am i entitled to anything ???


hiya i worked for my company for 4 years and then we got made redunant in September 2007 they then re-opened in another name and took me back on as an employee but only on a temporary basis - have a 6 months contract that ends on 31.03.08 - but now i have recieved a letter off them saying that they are ending my job a month earlier!!!
are they aloud to do that as my contract says 6 months - up until end of March ??
i am so annoyed !! its because there isnt a lot of work coming in and head office says they need to cut back on plp and thats me !!!
please help is there anything i can do ?? is this aloud ??

also i got my redundancy money back in september 2007 so wont be entitled to anything now i dont think !!!!

i'm not sure what redundancy money is. if your in the USA--then most states follow at "at will" process which means they can fire or hire you for any reason. as long as they abide by the contract, which i'm sure has a clause in it covering what happens if they terminate you, then they are perfectly legal

Sadly, there is not much you can do, except leave on good terms. It sounds like the company may not be around that much longer, anyway.

Sorry to hear that they are ending your contract early. I am not a lawyer or specialist in UK employment law, but would say the following based on personal experience.

It really depends on the terms of your temporary contract.

If you had a temporary contract that says that they can end the contract early then you don't really have a leg to stand on.

If you had a fixed term 6-month contract then you might be able to claim the extra month's salary - again it really depends on what was in the contract that you signed. And if they didn't give you a contract then they are in breach of UK employment law (assuming that is where you are).

As for the redundancy pay - you will not be entitled to this as you are not being made redundant. You are just having your contract terminated early.

If you have a contract that specifically states when you begin and end and that to terminate the contract early they will pay you your final month's payment...then they must stick with the contract. You should contact a labor/employment attorney for advise on your specific contract. GOOD LUCK.
