How will the stimulus package help America?

Considering that we are already overspending the expected revenues that the government uses to make the budget...where are they coming up with the $150 Billion to give away in tax rebates and corporate relief? Everyone who gets their check in the mail will use it to pay bills or catch up on house notes, etc....but this one time 'spending spree' to boost the economy isn't going to be a permanent fix. Let's face it, most Americans have been living beyond their means for a long time and this temporary injection into the economy is not going to cure anything. All it will do is postpone the enevitable.

Additional question: Which candidate running for office right now really has what it takes to get down to the nitty gritty and put us back on track? Will they have to raise taxes to get it done???

Retrograde...thanks for your answer. I'm sorry but I just can't bring myself to vote for a candidate like Ron Paul - his ideas are way too extreme.

Try this again...I have to reiterate again that I just don't see Ron Paul having a chance. Even if he were to get the nomination and become President...his hands would literally be tied because there are still 535 members between the House and Senate that would make sure he accomplished nothing.

In order for a candidate such as Ron Paul to have any kind of chance...we will first have to make sure that NO INCUMBENTS are re-elected to either the House or Senate...and then make sure that they only serve one term.

It acts as a temporary tax cut.
In the end the problems are much more severe than a rebate can cure.

bush and the republicans came up with this idea to buy votes but its not going to work and they know Hillary will become president and have to take on an almost impossible job of trying to straighten out the hugh mess those morons are leaving her so they want to make sure she doesn't have any money to do anything with// I believe she is the only one that can, the other candidates on both parties will only make it worse, with that said, if Hillary looses better make sure you have your passport and a plan////

People have money, they just spend it all. Nobody saves. Nobody has "rainy day" money. Everyone expects to be bailed out ...or, my personal favorite, play a victim.

Just stop it. The economy is pretty darn good. If you can't afford to buy something, then DON'T BUY IT. You are not entitled to it. Nobody is ENTITLED to anything -- except "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" Not YOUR definition of happiness.

There's an election coming up and if the economy tanks the Republicans will look really bad. This will buy them some votes.

Americans do what they are told. However, there is a cycle to this. The Federal Reserve has the power to regulate and restrict loans; instead they offered people VARS. The government could have raised taxes to fund the Iraq and Afgahistan wars; instead it borrowed the money from the Chinese. The Government has a reasonable responsibility to warn of the dangers of speculation, i.e., houses don't increase in value constantly forever; they ignored their responsibility. Credit card compainies fill out mailboxes with never ending offers for more and more credit; now the averages consumer is maxed out. There will be horrible consequences. The politicians wish to keep them from occuring until after the election.

When you spend 1/2 trillion dollars on a senseless war it is not a quesion of what politician to vote for. It is a question what type of government will you have: a government for the people or the corporaions. Americans have to start making choices and there's very little they can chose other than the democratic party which will in some tiny way reverse the festival of greed the repulicans have been engaging in.

The economic future is not going to be prettty and it's about the entire way we have to be governed. Bring back regulation. Tax corporations. Stop sending jobs out of the USA. When middle class and poor people get money they spend it on necessaries like food and rent and fuel and it stimulaes the economy. When the rich and corporations get money they save it and the economy goes down the tubes.

Americans chose Geroge Bush and the Republicans, now they are going to pay the price. It will take years to turn things around.

The Babe: While I don't disagree with you that people shouod be responsible. Remember when 9/11 hit. What did Bush do. He had he government buy TV commercails urging people to "Buy a Car"

Our leader set examples. The Governmen could have stopped irresponsible loan practices by banks. Instead it encouraged them. And passed Corporate tax breaks and allowed corporations to take money off-shore tax free.

It's not that simple.

It will only add to the 9.2 trillion dollar national debt. Bush and congress economic policies are ruining our country. Ron Paul is the only politician running for office that will tell the American people the truth, we can't afford our military bases overseas. Business as usual will not work any longer. In my opinion taxes should be raised. Taxing the multi-national corporations that have outsourced american jobs would be a good first step. Trickle down economics is a complete fraud. It doesn't work.

Ron Paul and John Edwards are our only hope.
