My temporary crown came off. Help?

I needed to get 2 crowns right next to each other so since they were doing the work on both teeth at once they made the temporary almost like a bridge. It's two temporary crowns that are one big unit.

Day before yesterday (12/23) the bite seemed off and by mid morning on X-Mas Eve when I'd speak I could feel the temporary pulling away.

I called the dentist's office (which was closed) and had a dentist paged. The dentist on duty (not my normal dentist) called back & told me that nobody would be in the office until Wednedsay so be careful and if it falls out to reseat it with Dentemp OS.

Well I bought the dentemp to have just in case. Last night I was talking on the phone and out pops the crown/bridge. I cleaned it up the best I could and reattached it. Today I've had to reattach it twice.

These crowns are expensive - shouldn't someone have met me at the dentist office to correct this? Instead my bite is off and I can't eat anything.

Correction: I called the dentist at about 11AM on Christmas Eve to report the problem, not today.

From what I have read.....all these answers are good ones in my opinion.......and again..shame on your dentist....I'd be looking for a better dentist sooner than later...mine is available to me for emergencies 24/7 365 days of the year....

Yes, your dentist should have done more. They should have met you at the office to re-seal it. Shame on them. Taking call on holidays does suck, but their number one concern is the patient. They knew this going in to the medical field.

I would call them again and insist on someone meeting you to fix the problem. If they would have done it yesterday, it wouldn't have screwed up their Christmas Day. Their bad, not you!

The on call dentist should be reported to the hospital for not fullfilling his professional and legal obligations to you. For a dentist to have hospital privileges, the dentists MUST take turn being on call. They cannot turn a patient down just because the call is inconvenient. To do so will result in their hospital privileges being revoked.

Further, for your dentist to start this kind of invasive work before his holiday was incredibly inconsiderate if he did not intend making himself available to you should the temporary crowns fall off.

I would report both dentists to their professional colleges for disciplinary action.

The dentist should be available to you, but since this is not the case here are a couple of suggestions. Take the temps out before you go to sleep to avoid swallowing them. If the temp material is not working try fixodent. After you re-cement them, insert gauze in between your teeth and gently bite down for approx 10 min to give the crowns time to set. Do not chew anything sticky on that side of your mouth. This includes bread as this can remove the crown easily.

If your bite is off I would take it out and try to clean it better and like "bored" said bite firmly on something to fully seat it. Check your bitebefore cementing it. It does not hurt if the temps are off a few days as long as it doesn't hurt/sensitive.
As for the dentist not meeting you, unless you are in pain, like extraction pain, most won't meet you. This is why many dentists do not like to do crowns before the holidays.
