Does a P.O. Box act as a temporary address?

Hi. I plan on moving to new a state but I won't have an address or a job when I get there initially. I can't get an apartment without a job and I can't get a job without an address. If I go to the local post office and apply for a P.O. Box will this count as an address that I can write on an application? What would you do if you were in my situation? I plan on staying in a hotel until I get a job and can get an apartment...

Do not get a P.O. Box if moving out of state. The best thing to do is go to a UPS store and get a box there. The difference is that the UPS store uses a real street address and your box number looks like an apt number. This way you can be sure that you are getting all your mail as sometimes the important mail will not be sent to a P.O. Box number.

Got the P.O. Box. That would be better then having mail sent to the hotel! A P.O. Box should work fine as an address for a job application. Just make sure to have a telephone number there so they can contact you that way if they prefer. Use your old address on an apartment application though. Just explain that you are just moving to the state.

In all seriousness, I don't think you can get a P.O. Box without a "real" address to give to the post office (sort of for security/fraud purposes).

However, your post office will confirm your current address is valid before renting you a post office.

Why not use the hotel as an address?

A P.O. Box is an official address so it can be a temporary address, but many post offices will not let you rent a box if you do not have an actual address. However the address of the motel you will stay at might work as an official address. You'll just need to ask at the post office when you get situated. Good luck.

Rent the Po box BEFORE you are homeless. You will have to give the post office a verifiable street adress. You will need to show a picture ID to rent the PO Box.
Once you have the PO Box set up you can then fill out the change of address form and have all of your mail forwarded to the PO Box. Now you can go live in the hotel or the back seat of your car. Use the PO Box as your address when you fill out job applications. If the employer questions this then and ONLY then explain that you are living in a hotel or your car or whatever you choose to tell them. Less info is better. They will accept the PO Box as your mailing address and may not require a street address.
