What's the deal with UK passport interviews?

I've never had a full UK passport (had a temporary one when I was about 16) even though I'm British and lived in England all my life.

I went to the website to request a form and it seems I'll have to go for an interview to prove who I am. Not only that but there's only about 6 offices currently open and none in my area.

So it looks like before a tax paying British citizen can have a passport I have to travel half way across the country to be grilled about my identity. I'm wondering if this is all linked in with the ID card that the government are thinking of bringing in.

Just wondering if anyone has been through this process. Do they refund travel expenses? Can interviews be held on weekends or would I need to book time off work?

Don't be a whiny baby. Your country is so small you could drive the whole way across it in a few hours.

Which 5 people voted that best answer?.

It wasn't an answer - it was a very unfunny attempt at a humorous insult. Actually, I expect the sad bastard created 5 duplicate accounts and voted for himself).

Shroomigator - you are an idiot. Now go away and think about what you've done Report It

I've never had a full UK passport, so ask some one who knows better.
