Should I take Royal Mail to the Court?

I am a Londoner and I suddenly had to move into a temporary accomodation in Nov. My Passport was with Home Office so instead of informing them and all the other companies about the change of addess I set up redirection for 3months by paying about 15 Pounds.
Although I repeatedly called Royal Mail up to forewarn em about my Passport they went on to loose my Passport, other important letters as well as my bank statements. They did admit that they have lost it and sent me a booklet of 12 first class stamps as compensation, which I sent back. Since they didn't get back to me I sent em another letter in May.In June they sent me a cheque of about 15Pounds which I am not going to accept. I am very angry with their behaviour towards me and lack of empathy on their part. Has neone had similar experiences? How much can I expect to be paid as a new Passport alone cost me 95Pounds not to mention calling their 0870 nos.? Would going to a Small Claims court be wise? Help Me Plz. Much Appreciated.

I have had major problems with Royal Mail recently, see my previous question about them. I am going to try the advice I was given which is to contact my local MP, then if nothing, get a letter from my solicitor to send to them which will cost about 拢25. You can also threaten Watchdog, but they have been on there so many times that they are probably pretty blarzy about it now! Good luck!

I had a similar experience - in the end I had to get a solicitor involved - they soon paid up.

Small Claims Court is OK but you have to pay upfront and then hope you win to reclaim all the costs. Do it if you need to - as a final shot - write a letter to them and give them 7 days to respond and include ALL your expenses, passport, calls, letters etc etc - BUT put in the letter that if they do not respond - legal action will follow.

get yourself a good solicitor

as far as i am aware royal mail does not have the contract to deliver passports anymore
