Homelessness?

i am being evicted out of my house through no fault of my family, its cos my hubby aint in the army no more, i have filled in homeless forms and they have said to go to our neighbourhood office on eviction day and we will be placed in temporary accomodation, what is this, considering i have 2 dogs a cat and a child? and our stuff is going into storage paid by the council, how long will it take til we get a perm address and have my stuff back?

my hubby is working but he is only working part time due to medical problems... hence why he isnt in the army

You ought to be given emergency accomodation. Why did your husband not make enquiries with Army before he left. I know there would have been help to find you accommodation and if it is not too late why not go and see someone from the NAAFI who maybe able to come up with an answer.

Hun don't want to make it worse but it took me 3 years - i had to spend just over a year in a hotel that was horrendous and cost a fortune as i was working - it was a tiny room for me and my daughter and smelt so bad - there were some horrid people living there - i finally after much crying and depression argument's with my Dr got more temporary accommodation and then finaly got my flat which was fab - good luck my hun thoughts are with you. oh i dont think the cat and dog will be welcome maybe find temp home for them

so sorry to hear about this, must be so worrying for you. The good news is that they must help you as you have a child so you will be rehoused as a priority. There is a lot of pressure on housing services so to get out of temp housing into permanent as soon as possible you will need to keep on and on at them. Get your citizens advice bureau involved, also most definitely your MP. It also helps if you are not too choosy about what you move into.

It could take anywhere between 6 weeks and 5 years! My friend registered as homeless when her landlord sold the house she lived in - they pretty much told her that if she wasn't 15 and about to have a child they couldn't do anything for her. The dogs and cat will not be a priority for the council and they have no obligation to provide you with accommodation which allows animals so it may be that you will have to ask someone else to look after them while you are in limbo. The council will take into account the fact that you have a child, but they will argue that one or both of you should be working and be able to rent privately. At the end of the day the council have to house people on a priority basis and it doesn't sound as though you will be a priority. Contact your local housing associations (type into google "housing associations and your town) and contact them instead.

my house was being repossessed when ex left, homeless accommodation was more suitable to the down and outs, i had to sub-let where the DSS paid 拢175pm for a 2 bed flat for myself and my daughter and baby grandson, 2 years later my daughter was given a council flat due to unstable housing and I was told I didn't have enought points to be rehoused and would be another 10 years unless I took a tower block, which I did and I would like to point out i was born and raised in this town and didn't qualify, although if I had moved from abroad or another district i would have went to the top of the housing list?

If his medical problems are from service, his compensation should be adequate to carry on. If it is not, then shame on our government.

Since you did not go into detail, concerning his discharge, we don't know.

Sorry to hear that. Homelessness is a terrible problem all over the world. There are councils and programs out there to help you, unfortunaltly I cannot identify them because I do not know where you live. In Southern California, the average time that it takes a person to recover from homelessness is 7 years. No matter where you are, ask yourself this question: What can I do TODAY to improve my situation?

Statistics say many people are a pay check away from being homeless, I barely make my rent but I've been in your predicament try local churches,salavation army,catholic charities, Good Luck and God Bless

Are you saying you are being thrown out of a Married Quarter?

If your husband is no longer in the Army you don't have an entitlement to military accommodation. MQs are provided for service personnel.

sorry to hear about your problem but while it seems bad now i promise it will get better. we had to go into emargency which was a shared house, we were lucky as the other family was great, after 3 months we were given a temporary house and now less than 1year later were on the move to a permanant flat. yes we had to get somone to look after our dog and it was a nightmare but hopefully at the end of it you will be settled . i wouldnt wait till the day you have to leave though . all the best

Something similar happened to my brother in London, they offered to put his wife and children into a hostel but could not accommodate him.
He got a cardboard box flattened it out and wrote in big letters.

42 YEAR OLD MAN BORN AND BREAD IN BRITAIN, MADE HOMELESS THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN
COUNCIL PUT WIFE AND CHILDREN IN HOSTEL REFUSED TO ACCOMMODATE ME NOW I SLEEP ON THE STREET.
IMMIGRANTS COMING FROM ASIA GIVEN IMMEDIATE HOUSES BY THIS COUNCIL.

He sat outside the council housing office with this and within 1 hour was given keys for a flat by the council.
A bit drastic but it worked.

They will not take your animals and some people wait years in hostel or hotel accomodation.

It's not nice , but you are better off than I was.

My Council did nothing , except giving me the address of the night shelter.

My stuff was not put into storage as it was stolen by my ex landlord.

My dog was put out onto the street as I was in hospital when it all happened.

My Council do not want to answer questions about the situation
