Last night -- this is from the New York Times today -- last night Christopher Hitchens and the Reverend Sharpton had a debate, and it was sold out. I don't know what the capacity of the place was, but it was before a crowd that packed the Celeste Bartos Forum at the New York Public Library's Beaux-Arts headquarters on Fifth Avenue. Mr. Hitchens said he realized that belief in God was something that a lot of people hold dear. Mr. Sharpton -- this is on printed page five of the New York Times -- the Reverend Sharpton, "Mr. Sharpton, in a jab at Mitt Romney (and the Mormon religion, which Mr. Hitchens had criticized because it once endorsed racial segregation), added, 'As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don鈥檛 worry, that鈥檚 a temporary situation.'"

So here is now the man who basically is the chief of police of speech at NBC and CBS, Al Sharpton, who now says, "Well, as for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don't worry, that's a temporary situation." Would you call that racial bigotry? What would we call this? Religious bigotry? The thing is, nothing will happen. It could be hate speech. Could it be a call to arms to anti-Mormonism, get these people up in arms? He doesn't really believe in God; get out there and vote against him, or whatever. At any rate, nothing will happen to the Reverend Sharpton on this, because the Reverend Sharpton is a minority, and minorities, because they have no power to be any of the isms, like racists, bigots, or any of that, the Reverend Sharpton will not be held accountable or called to account because minorities are just trying to be heard, in the dialogue, just trying to be heard. Mitt Romney, I think, ought to ask now for Secret Service protection, ladies and gentlemen, because of this hate speech from Reverend Sharpton.

The Good Reverend Sharpton will find his back account shrinking if he ever makes a reasonable statement. That guy makes Jesse Jackson look intelligent and articulate.

It's okay to pick on christians and whites, and mormons sort of represent both in one snappy package. However, if you're a gay arab biker, you have more 'rights', one of which is the right to bash mormons publicly and on TV. Black christians are exempt from criticism of any kind.

You, like most of your ilk speak only in half-truths and outright lies. The man Sharpton was debating, Hitchens, is an atheist that is who he was referring to. Not the Mormon religion which far as I know believe in God also.

Sharpton's an idiot media whore who needs to be shot. He's the biggest biggot out there. Watch. All the blacks will try to turn this into "whites are racist by calling sharpton a biggot "(see black guy above's comment)...I saw that interview on CNN where sharpton is trying to defend himself and all that came out of his mouth was BS. BTW, I am not white so don't play the race card on me. I'm immuned, right :)

We all need tp drop the political correctness in this country and disable anyone from using the race card at the first chance they get. Its getting too old.

I think its time to get over it, the mormons have been plotting against the US govt. since they have began as a religion. Even Joeseph smith was in there with aspirtation to be president. THe Utah war is a great example of this. Troops sent to Utah to pull them into line.

So called "Reverend" Alfred Sharpton is not a man of God. His sole purpose is to stir up racial conflict between the black folks and everyone else, especially Caucasians. He's basically a black supremacist.

Al Sharpton is to God, what Al Capone is to the rule of law.

I am not familiar with the man or the quote. See what the context is and what he was trying to say. There are some concerns about the honesty of Mormons, but I cant speak for Romney.

There is a double standard.

Like today - 2 radio dj's make degrading remarks about the first lady and Condoleeza Rice. Where is Al Sharpton to defend them? That's right. Nowhere. He has absolutely zero integrity or credibility.

Updating my answer: wow. I just read this. I think that pigs will fly soon, because I never thought I would see Al Sharpton meeting with Mormon church leaders in my lifetime.
