Job situation need advice? |
I saw a job on craigslist "PT will become FT after 3 months." The job post demanded college edu&office exp. I graduated with a BA & honors have 5+yrs Admin Office exp. over 3 yrs ofvolunteering. Worked for a big company on a temporary assigment. The accountant at this place said that I would get over 25 hrs a week as PT no less. Later they said they want to try me out & they'd increase my hours, told me come in 4 hours today 4 hours tomorrow. I'd find out the rate after I came in today after HR was talked to. This is a company that makes a lot of $ daily and during my time there I was given a full load of financial duties.I was told by the way you will get 11 dollars an hour for this position. I was thinking wtf? I had discussed the rate I had been working for and know what the position is paid for which is the salary I wanted. Why are they paying me only a few bucks higher than min wage, this is no where it should be I asked if it will go up when FT she said she doesn't know? I am currently working part-time nights and weekends at an office but the job is only part time without benefits I need to support myself and the reason I interviewed for this one is that I need to support myself, health care and a place to work full time. Sounds like bait and switch. If they screw you over as a temp, imagine what they'll do when on staff. Walk away. The job sounds questionable. Why not move on? If something doesn't smell right, it may not get better later. Well number one I don't trust many jobs posted on Craig's List. Number two you need to confront whomever commited to the terms you agreed upon when they hired you and don't take less than they promised. Granted the three month time line hasn't come yet, but you need to discuss the pay and when this position will go to FT. If you like the job and want to keep it though - be careful how you come across of course. But I would definately stand up for what was discussed upon hire and how this isn't what you signed up for. Unless you have something in writing promised from them, regarding salary etc., you don't have much too stand on. If your unhappy and need the money, work, get paid and find somewhere else. If you don't need the money. Quit. It's really that simple isn't it? They can come up with too many excuses for why they didn't pay you more. Why are you even considering a job that seems to be so shady with the education & experience you say you possess? |
