Do I really need a court order to get my middle name changed on my PA driver's license?

I got married recently and took my maiden name as my middle name and my husband's name as my surname. Ex: Helen Binti Carter becomes Helen Carter Denham. Pretty common I think.

I went to the Social Security Office and painlessly had my name changed. My driver's license was also up for renewal, so I sent in a form to renew and change my name. Well, when I received my temporary card, my new name was listened as Helen Binti Denham. My middle name had not been changed.

So now I have two names, and PennDOT claims they cannot change my middle name on my DL without a court order which can takes months and costs about $300++.

Is this really true? It makes no sense to me and I cannot find it anywhere on their site. Has anyone been through this before?

Just wanted to let it be known that the names used are all made up - no identity thefts please. ;).

If your wedding documents show the change in name (and they normally do, like on the wedding license or decree), you should be able to submit that! That's what they take when people change their names formally and it's not like you change your name from Jane Idla Smith to Xoolocks Mmkh Zanzan, you know?

JUST CALL YOUR COUNTY COURT HOUSE AND ASK THEM AND THIS WAY YOU WILL GET THE CORRECT ANSWER THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

ALSO A WORD OF ADVISE, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU NEVER PUT PERSONAL INFO ON THE WEB.
