A woman in work keeps staring? |
I work in a building with a reception area. There's a lady in reception who is constantly looking at me, constantly glaring at me. I'm only a temporary staff, we've had no arguments or anything. What gives? She's significantly older than me, but very slim and very well dressed. Could it be a jealousy thing? I've caught her staring at me - that's how I know it's not me causing it. I get a sense when someone is, and she was. She also has this attitude towards me, like she knows I'm only a temp so I don't know the ropes, but she still gets on my case for not knowing... i had the same issue when i started doing my practicum for my social work degree!! i was volunteering 2 days a week for a few months and a woman who worked there was probably 30+ years older then me and would always give me attitude and wouldnt even call me by name..she would call me "2 weeks" because i wasnt permenent. she went out of her way to prove that she refused to learn my correct name (is Jennifer THAT hard to learn? i mean seriously) and when i spoke to the boss about it he told me that she doesnt have a degree and never went to college..she was threatened by me being there because i had more knowledge than her in the field. she saw me as someone who was going to take her job because i was college educated and she wasnt. she held my education against me even though the boss wasnt gunna replace her with me at anytime. she may be worried u are being brought in to take her job...just be as nice as possible and dont give her any reason to have a problem with u..kill her with kindness!! even if she continues to be rude at least others will see that because if ur so nice then SHE must have a problem...good luck Make eye contact...and don't break you're stare. This says loud and clear "I know what you're doing, and I don't like it". I guarentee, she'll look away. Confront her. Either stare back, or tell her, "Excuse me, is something bothering you?" Ignore her. She's just insecure and thinks someone younger is going to get her job. And many older women have been taught to think of all other women as a rival. My mother is this way - she dislikes almost all other women on principal. just start staring at her, if you notice that she is looking at you then look at her, its not rude for you to look back at her but it will probably stop her from looking at you, if you really want you could even be obnoxious about it like she is, or you could just approach her and tell her that you dont like it i know EXACTLY how you feel, but with me, it's my boss who sits 8 feet from me, he turns his chair and just sits in front of my desk and stares. i asked for help on this subject here on answers, everyone said the same thing...stare back, make eye contact.etc... but none of that works, plus it made me feel uncomfortable staring back. so the only thing i could think of was to buy a plant and put it on my desk and try to block his view. it sucks having someone do that for most of the day, i hate it . i wish i had some advice for you because i makes for a very long day. at least you know someone shares your problem. good luck. Are you sure she's "glaring" at you? Maybe you remind her of someone, or has the thought crossed your mind that since you are seeing her look at you, that maybe she thinks YOU are staring at her and therefor she is staring back at you? Just a thought...... When she stares at you, just look at her and ask "Did you have a question?" - it might embarass her enough to make her stop or it will at least know that you are aware. You may have to do this a couple of times before she gets the message that it bothers you. If she never gets the message than just ignore her. Don't stare back - it just makes you seem as strange as her. try to have a chat with her ... maybe she thinks she knows you from somewhere ... Stare right back .........and give her a big ol smile!!! It will drive her nuts that she doesn't intimidate you ! Speak with your Temp Service - and ask for advice as to whom to report this within your client company. Welcome to the wonderful world of temping. if you plan to temp for a while, you can expect more of the same. You need to speak to the temp agency that sent you there. Just explain that you feel uneasy with the situation. |
