Court order to get middle name changed on PA driver's license?

I got married recently and took my maiden name as my middle name and my husband's name as my surname. Ex: Helen Binti Carter becomes Helen Carter Denham. Pretty common I think.

I went to the Social Security Office and painlessly had my name changed. My driver's license was also up for renewal, so I sent in a form to renew and change my name. Well, when I received my temporary card, my new name was listened as Helen Binti Denham. My middle name had not been changed.

So now I have two names, and PennDOT claims they cannot change my middle name on my DL without a court order which can takes months and costs about $300++.

Is this really true? It makes no sense to me and I cannot find it anywhere on their site. Has anyone been through this before?

You can't do that on your driver licanse unless you get your name legally changed. getting married does not erase your middle name.
