There is a lot of racial tension on my job, what's the best way to handle it??


ie. All minorities have been written up while the white's have not and minorities that have been here many years have not been promoted while the whites that have been temporaries are getting ahead first. Minorities have not been celebrated for their birthdays (they are mostly forgotten on the company calandar) while whites get decorated offices and such.

I tried to get a job and they gave me a bad reference even though at that time I had never been written up. Shortly thereafter I was written up for coming to work late after I had a minor fender bender. They told me that I should have been more careful getting to work.

I understand how you feel. It would help to know if your employer is civil service or private industry. EEOC is a joke! They take your complaints and send them right back to the employer so that they can investigate themselves.

I am going through the same crap as you and I have decided that I am not going to quit my job. Stay there and let them look at you day after day. What you all really need to do is go - as a group - to a newspaper, the news stations, 48 hours, etc., and get some publicity out of this.

As far as birthday celebrations, all of the minorities should get together and start their own "birthday club". When management asks why you're not including the whites, tell them that you all are celebrating the birthdays of the forgotten employees.

Quit.

take it to the naacp

File a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

change jobs.

there will always be ignorant people you have to work with. ignore them and pay no attention for they have little minds and are not worth your thoughts.

Contact the National Labor Board. They will take care of things and it will not cost you anything.

Go to the Naacp and see if they can help..If you'd rather not go there..Then write down everything that happens over a course of time..

Now as far as the office decorations ..is thecompany paying for it or are people doing it that are friends of the person..be sneeky and see if you can find out who's by the decorations,

If this is a major corporation, you might want to contact the international office's Job Discrimination unit (whatever it is called). Otherwise: you need to talk to your state's employment discrimination office (or national equivalent, if you're not in the U.S.). In Wisconsin, for example, you would talk to the Equal Rights Division of the Department of Workforce Development:

For real,this sounds blatant discrimination.I can't believe anyone hasn't come forth and filed a suit

It is a real shame that this day in age we still have problems like this. I hate to say it, but from the sounds of your situation, things don't sound if they are going to change any time soon. If I was in your place, I would think about finding another job. Nobody should work for a company that does not fully appreciate their contributions. Perhaps you are thinking if you quit, then they win..... But it is not necessarily true. At least you will have the satisfaction of no longer being mistreated by th "higher-ups" of your company that apperently are still stuck in the 1960's.
