Has the USA ever had a less intelligible president than Bush?

Bush accidentally gave out the wrong number Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) 鈥?Harried homeowners seeking mortgage relief from a new Bush administration hotline Thursday had to contend with a bit of temporary misdirection from the president himself.

As he announced his plan to ease the mortgage crisis for consumers, President Bush accidentally gave out the wrong phone number for the new 鈥淗ope Now Hotline鈥?set up by his administration.

Anyone who dialed 1-800-995-HOPE did not reach the mortgage hotline but instead contacted the Freedom Christian Academy 鈥?a Texas-based group that provides Christian education home schooling material.

The White House press office quickly put out a correction moments after the President鈥檚 remarks. After dialing the correct number, 1-888-995-HOPE, CNN was connected to a 鈥渃ounselor鈥?within three minutes.

The chimp is beyond embarrassing at this point.

Salsa Shark:

This is not his first or last 'slip-up'.

the man is an utter and complete mental midget.

Gerald R Ford, for a couple reasons, including:

Pardoning the criminal Richard M. Nixon,

Fighting inflation by ordering millions of "WIN (Whip Inflation Now)" buttons... from China, which (seriously) had to be recalled for containing lead paint (funny how NOTHING changes when Republicans are in charge).

Not being able to walk down a set of stairs and set policy at the same time.

Helping the Warren Commission decide Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin in the JFK assassination.

Yes, look at his dad.

He's still has more brain activity than our dead presidents.

yah clinton

I am usually very critical of the president but this just seems to be an honest (and embarassing) mistake.

The GOP has set the bar so low for Bush that it was last seen approaching the center of the Earth.

Nope... We almost had one with the ill-fated campaign of "Mumbles Johnson", but he didn't make it past the primaries.

yes, he was home-schooled,
and one child left behind!!!

We have had some real duds like Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce and a few others but this one takes the cake. The more he does the more assured he is of being rated the worst President for many generations to come and even worse than any up to now. Yes he is beyond embarrassing. People I know in Europe wonder how such a fool could have been elected. They thought we had better sense than that and can't wait until he's out of office.

Public speaking is not his strong point, that's for sure. Of course, we have no way of knowing what all the presidents before recordings existed spoke like. We don't get the "um"s and "er"s and goofs in the transcriptions of their speeches. For all we know, Lincoln may have said "Forty-seven years ago," but history recorded what he had written down on the envelope.

Why the thumbs downs? The question was about his intelligibility, not his intelligence. All I did was point out that we can't really be sure about how intelligible earlier presidents were.

Ford was similar in mannerisms- that's why Chevy Chase had such a great career mocking him.

Anyone who says Clinton didn't understand your question- which figures. Clinton was always intelligible- even if you didn't like what he had to say.

Thank goodness we have geniuses like you who've never made any kind of mistake whatsoever in their whole lives. To quote Randall, "It must be very satisfying to point out the shortcomings of others"

Yes. You arrrrre brilliant.
Bush personally put out the wrong number.
(Don't like yourself very much, eh little kid?)

No president was dumber and Hated America more than Jimmy Carter.

Even sleazeball Clinton, the "boy president", was more intelligent than Carter.

I'm amazed of how many Elitists answered your question, and how perfectly they speak.
It must be wonderful to be a Hate America Democrat on Welfare.
Oh Nice!!!!!

Honestly, why are you bothing keeping track anymore?

I've moved on to the Bush Countdown clock.

No, he stands alone on that one. He murders the King's English and gets away with it. He will go down in history as "ONE OF A KIND."

YES, Jimmy Carter!!

Yes. Jimmy Carter.

Yes, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

Wait a minute. Isn't your party running Hillary who attacks Obama over a kindergarten quote.
