HP Pavillion MX70 - Is very very slow to do anything, I have broadband and Microsoft Office is very slow aswel

As above, the pc is excrutiatingly slow to perform, from opening a new document or opening a file/ saved document soooooooo slow. There is lots of space on the memory, I have disconnected broadband and its still slow (so I reconnected which is how Im here asking this!) I have tried turning it off and on (thousands of times) I have deleted all temporary files to clear space up (but as I said, theres loads of spare space) If anybody has any ideas or can help at all I would be very grateful.....Do I need ot get a new PC? I cant think whats wrong with this....... By the way, It has MacAfee so I dont think there could be a virus?

u may need more programs to remove adware. i have the same pc. i use ad-aware and spybot twice a week to keep it running fast, check out etplanet.com to download programs that remove adware. hope this helps

Could be many thigns causing this issue.

The first step though is to make sure your harddrive has enough room/space to run the programs, so first off run scandisk/frag as mention below.


Scandisk: Start, My Computer, right click Local Disk C, properties, Tools, Check Disk Now select both squares (which will require a comptuer restart),

Defrag: Should be below Scandisk.


In terms of viruses, it does sound unlikely, but it woun't hurt to get it scaned for free online, check otu http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Another thing, when your computer starts to get slow when you open files/programs, a good way to test to see what programs/files are at fault, is using Task Manager (Ctrl, Alt, Delete) and from their select Processes, keep a eye on CPU which is near the right hand side. Look for high numbers and the Image Name associated to the number on the left hand side of the windows. Click the Image Name and then click End Process, and see if that speeds up your computer for you.
