Is there anyone who works in or has worked in an office without a window and just walls?

I've been in this temporary job now for 2 weeks and I feel so claustrophobic. I don't know if it's sunny or rainy. How would you feel if you worked like this?

When I was teaching, I had three different "interior" rooms with no windows. My day was so busy that I didn't have much time to look out the window, any way, but I sure missed the sunshine. I had lunch outside if the weather was at all cooperative most days.

After we moved to Texas, my job required a drive, and since it was a new building, new material, it required much longer hours than some years. I got up in the dark, left the house before sunrise, and frequently drove home about the time the sun set. Sometimes it was dark before I left the building. I felt like a vampire - never able to see the sun! If you have a tendency to seasonal mood swings, as I do, that sunshine is essential to your state of mind. Most of us can stand something temporarily, but it sounds as if you've about reached your limit. If you can, take your breaks and lunch where you can get some daylight. Even a few moments of sunlight on your face can improve your mood. (Wear sun-screen.)

I want it... trust me, so over front-line customer service.. What kind of job do you have?

Maybe you should keep a plant at your desk and maybe a nice print/poster on the wall, could make it feel a bit happier and brighter.

Mind you, my mum did 12 years in a box of an office, no windows just fluorescent lighting, desk and computer... hated it of course, but she decorated it very nicely.

I've done that. I did data entry as a temporary employee for a month in a cubby that not only had no windows, the aisles and open areas were also dark. It was claustrophobic and a little depressing. I went out for lunch every day even in lousy weather just to see the sky and they offered me a position and I turned it down for that very reason. In my last job before I "retired" I worked in a good size cubicle just outside my bosses office. Again no windows. But this time, my job required me to be in my bosses office a lot and she had lots of sunny windows so it wasn't so bad. The whole office was well lit and bright and we were allowed to decorate - to a tasteful degree - our cubicles and have plants so the effect was much easier to deal with.

Hi "Poopsy"--Yes, when I was temping, I worked in several offices that had no windows, or the offices themselves were so large that all you could see in any direction was cubicle after cubical, and it really didn't bother me one way or the other. However, if I recall correctly, a while back in one of your questions, you mentioned that you are affected with SAD (seasonal affective disorder). To help you combat that and the claustrophobic feeling, go OUTDOORS on your breaks and at lunchtime. If necessary, talk to your supervisor about shortening your breaks a little, and squeeze an additional one in there everyday. Just a few minutes in the light of day will usually help clear up this problem. Good luck with this---and, Merry Christmas to you.
