I'm getting majorly pissed off with automated telephone answering systems. What can I do as an individual?

Please don't say boycott companies that use them, because that won't leave me many companies to deal with - and as an individual, most companies wouldn't notice the loss.

letters & emails have both been tried, but sometimes you want a same day answer

As for calling their rivals, chances are they use the same answering system (except maybe on their sales line).

Email them. Call their competitor.

Write letters.

Press "0" to speak to a representative.

Freak out on them.
