Please Identify main use cases for a telephone answering machine software?

uhm i am not sure if i understand the question, but i have voice over i.p. so use use software that acts like its a phone so i can call a home phone from my pc.....so if someone tries to call me back, they will be calling my pc, and if the pc is turned off you would want it to goto a voicemail, and thats how it works with mindspring anyway
