How would a person answer the telephone in a spanish speaking country? |
Just curious. I'm learning spanish, and I was wondering how somebody would say hello when answering the phone. It depends on the country and the person. hola ??? if it's morning, you'll probably hear Hola! O'la 'Bueno?' or 'Buenas?' or 'Si?' Hola? quien habla? When I lived in Spain we said Hola(ola) hope that helps. I guess it would depend if they speak Spanish...maybe they don't...who knows?! If they do speak Spanish, I would say they answer the phone by saying "Hola?" Pretty much with a bright and cheery "hola!" "Bueno" or "Hola" If you're calling someones residence, its a casual "bueno", if its a business then its probably a more proper greeting, and in that case I don't know. In my household we answer, "Hola, Bueno, or Hello" and sometimes we follow with "Con quien tengo el gusto?" meaning with whom do I have the pleasure... Allo is typical, Bueno is also used. Hola occasionally. Alo??? or.. Si? Quien en habla?? bueno I've heard every thing from mande, which is like tell me, to hola, bueno, buen dia, buenos dias, and si. There are different phone greetings in different countries, and perhaps in different regions of the same country. In Mexico City, the phone greeting I heard most often was "bueno". You would say (Bueno) when answering the phone and is the most common word used, but correctly speaking you would say (Hola). |

On the automated system, pressing 0, that's zero, gets you a live person. Sometimes, you have to press * (star key). Either way, you end up in the queue line to be answered by a live person....
