Why do bored people insist on spending free time harassing telephone operators?

By telephone operators I mean representatives who answer phone calls, we don't call out.

Ok, yes I am talking about prank calls. People don't realize that some operators make commission on calls, and when you call and prank them it ruins that for them. I don't come to your work and harass and pull pranks on you do I? Just frusturated I suppose.

Because they are idiots. Prank calls could potentially cost lives as emergency crews attend pranks rather than real calls. Quite apart from that, they should realise telephone operators have an important job to do.

Because it is your job to talk to people who call you.

like a prank call? because its funny- just calling one up to chat and whine to, thats not really a normal occurance

Well if you aren't calling out then it is because they are immature. I don't know I was always taught NOT to play on the phone. I agree with you about it being wrong and that if you don't bother them at work so they should return the courtsey. To the one who said it is funny it really isn't. I would tell the person that they are harrassing you and if they call again you will have them reported for phone harrassment. Most of them will be scared from simply hearing that. After all most buisnesses, and espically ones like that, have Caller ID now and you can find out who is making the calls. With so few pay-phones now they aren't likely to go to a pay-phone to do it again.
