Is there anyone else out there who hates making telephone calls?

I hate it, and I mean, HATE it. I'll do anything I can to get out of making a telephone call. It's almost more of a phobia than a dislike. And the funny thing is, I have no problem ANSWERING phone-calls. Only making them. I'd rather send a text or an email anytime. It feels intrusive or something. Or maybe it's not being able to see someone when I'm talking to them.

Obviously there's quite a few people like that. So I think people should hesitate before they say (in that breezy way) "Give me a call!". I also hate businesses or organisations who don't have an email address as well as a phone number.

I get nervous, a lot....I hate it, too. It's like you dunno who's gonna answer!
i do feel more comfortable telling the person to call me instead, even with a close good friend. I always feel embarassed and stupid when that person picks up the phone and asks whos calling...

so im with ya!

Yup. Texting is best!

well yes unless it is to a friend then fine

agree it seems like your bothering the person

I'm the opposite
I HATE answering the phone.

my sister, my friend. Thats why i've stopped answering phone calls when she is there and MAKE her face her fears! Thats teh way forward...face your fears. Its harsh i know but she ignores calls at her house. It could be important!

I completely concur. BUT, I just don't like being on the phone at all. I feel like you can have so much more of a conversation yet still multi-task while texting instead of talking on the phone. It also gives more privacy. If you are on the phone, any and everybody around you can hear your end of the conversation.

yes thats why im on the net and ignore my phone while sleeping

Try being a teacher who has to call a parent about his/her child. Those are always fun.

yeh i hate makin phone calls 2 id much rather email or tx

I don't like em either. You call for somebody and the receptionist says "He is not at his desk" or something; and you know she is lying.

My daughters the same and she is 25, she gets me to make most of her calls.

u have no problem recieving them well thats pretty wierd i guess u should just stick to texting i guess

i dont like making telephone calls , cus I stutter a lot when i speak on the fone ! most of my friends think I'm an arsehole cus i hardly call them .

I hate phones. I hate answering them (always get the boyfriend to do it) and I hate talking on them. I worked hard to find a job where i didn't have to answer the phone or make many phone calls and i'm the same as you with text or email.

I occasionally phone my family because they live on the other side of the world but i could happily live without phones. This shoots to pieces the theory that women love to talk on the telephone all the time.

Its funny that u say that, i hate making calls too but never thought it may be a phobia before. When making calls from work i've actually gotten used to it now so not so bad, but hate calling others!

I disagree. I HATE texting. I mean, it comes in handy when I am in a meeting or just need to send a simple message but I cannot stand it when people want to have entire conversations via text. I find myself having an hour conversation about nothing and the whole time I have the phone in my hand I am thinking gosh I wish there was a quicker way to finish this conversation. Its right there in my hand.

O well, Happy texting

Absolutely, me too.
I'd rather not do something than call - unless it's absolutely crucial (even then I'd happily hop in the car to make a two hour trip to post information rather than call.) Bizarrely I am not nearly as bad at work calls. Provided I am calling on company business - I'm quite chatty, vivacious even.
If it's private I feel I have to justify phoning someone. That I shouldn't call unless I have a really good reason, doesn't make it any easier dialling though. I hate making calls from me personally even totally stupid ones - i.e phoning to book a squash court.
I always imagine I'll just grow out of it one day - there is an element of being OK if I really force myself to do it.
Your question made me smile - I'd never thought of asking if anyone else did it - quite reassuring in a perverse way!

i am just the opposed i hate,to ans-er the phone.

I used to hate calling people too. I got over it by working at my university's call center. Try calling hundreds of people a week, having some of them hang up on you and others yell at you. My point is, you need to get over it. While our culture is becoming more of an email/texting culture, there are times when the phone is still necessary or proper. I'm looking for a job right now, and I'd be in trouble if I couldn't make calls to prospective employers or be able to conduct a phone interview. I still don't like calling strangers that much, but it's a necessity of life. Practice a lot, and it'll get easier. Try ordering your pizza over the phone instead of online ;-)

i hate leaving messages on an answering machine

yeah I hate talking on the phone
It's annoying
I like texting or talking to the person in real life. Or on MySpace or Facebook.
I don't use my mobile much, only mainly for texting.

I'm like that a bit too - i much prefer text and emails!

I also used to be quite phobic about making phone calls when i was younger, but that's mostly worn off now as I have to make calls at work - you just have to get on with it, and although I'm still uncomfortable, the phobia lessens eventually.

I also dislike answering the phone - I've come to hate it more as I've got older (although it does depend on who is calling). i usually try to get off the phone as soon as i can, as I find it irritating and intrusive in general.

that too! and leaving messages as well.
