The answer is 31 feet.
The yard stick is 36 inches long (that's why it's called a 'yard' stick). It casts a 24 inch shadow, or 2/3 of its length.
The pole casts a shadow of 20 ft 8 in., which would also be 2/3 of the pole length.

Set up as a ratio problem as the lengths of the object and of its shadow are in direct proportion to each other.

So, you will have 36/24 = x/ (20 and 2/3)
notes: 36 is lenght of yardstick
20 and 2/3 is same as 20' 8"

Cross multiply
24x = 36*(62/3) 62/3 is improper fraction for 20 and 2/3

divide both sides by 24
x = (36*62/3)/24
x=31 feet
