After my aunt died my own telephone number showed up on its caller ID. How is this possible?

I attended my aunt's funeral yesterday and when I got home late last night and checked the caller ID it showed my own telephone number having called at 12:20 that afternoon. How exactly does the telephone call itself especially when no one is home? And.....as we all know - if we pick up our phone and dial our own number we'll get a busy signal. Any idea on how this could have happened? Is there any logical explanation? Or was my aunt was just letting me know she says goodbye?

I posted this in the Electronics/Land line section and haven't gotten an answer, so perhaps someone here has an idea.

Perhaps I was not clear. This has nothing to do with a cell phone. My land line number showed up on my land line caller ID. There was no one home. My husband and daughter were with me at the funeral. I'm not looking for sarcasm - I'm looking for an honest answer as to how this could happen. Pick up your phone and call yourself and you'll get a busy signal. I've never had my own number show up on its own caller ID and I just want to know how a telephone can call itself.....

i have heard many times about strange things happening with phones around times of death
when my dad in law lost his wife , about a week later he had a message on his machine
when he went to play it , there was a song on it which was him and his wifes favourite
no one but close family members new about this song , and they would not have played such a trick on him
and it is a very rare song that you cant even buy in shops any more
i like to think of all these as little signs that they are still around

Your cell phone could have called your house, maybe someone used it, a family member of yours could have called the house using your cell phone, any number of reasons.

Alright, so you don't have a cell phone, I'm sorry you didn't give this information earlier.

Maybe the phone company was working on it, maybe there was a hiccup in the line (it happens sometimes) or something else. Wouldn't your aunt want to be more clear in her farewell to you? I'm very sorry for your loss. Peace

The most logical idea is that the ghost of your aunt dialed your number?

Maybe a problem. Last night I called on my cell from landline... and after 5 mins it actually rang on my cell .. even when the ladnland was already hanged.

In ur case, it has nothing to do with scary thoughts.

Ummm yeahh sure your DEAD aunt wanted to say goodbye to you.

The dead are conscious of nothing at all...so it wasn't her that called. Are you sure a family member wasn't over at the house packing up old things? Ask your family members first before believing that a ghost called you.

It was your aunt saying goodbye.

It could have been her trying to tell you that there is life in the beyond, in case you may have thought otherwise ! You see our astral body, that is that part of us which leaves our earthly body after death does radiate waves. These waves can possibly interfere with electrical or phone circuits which do also consist of electromagnetic waves. The telephone company conducts random testing to make sure the network is functioning normally. This happens 24/7 whether you are there or not.

The testing basically consists of the switch at the central office picking numbers and doing a quick "loop callback" test in which your own number is dialed in & out of your particular copper pair to verify full duplex connectivity, resistance, timing, etc. Some of you may recognize this because your phone will give about 1/2 a ring (if you answer, nothing is there).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but despite your aunt dying, normal everyday things still continue happening. It was your own interpretation of the event that led you to believe in something different.

Maybe you caller ID just had a glitch and show your number instead of the callers number.
