Will a regular telephone cord work with a dsl modem or do I need a special cord?

Just wanted to know the answer to the above question, because my clip broke on the original cord for the modem (dsl) and wouldnt stay connected any more. So I am wondering if it is fine to use the telephone cord instead (of course, connected to the DSL side of the adapter. Thanks!

from the wall jack to the DSL modem is a RJ-11 cable(regular phone line), from DSL modem to PC is RJ-45 (Lan cable)

But some phone wires use really cheap thin fibrous wire wrapped with cotton... those do not work quite as well, but should be fine if under 10 feet to the wall.

99.9999999% of the time a normal cord will be fine, but if you have problems you might need to use one that uses solid copper wire.

Everyone above is wrong.... not to mention they all seam to think you are talking about the network cord, when you specifically said TELEPHONE cord on the DSL SIDE of the adapter. I'm a Computer Engineer, work as a LAN Engineer for the Government, and I can ensure you a regular cord will most likely be fine.... unless the cord you happen to buy really sucks.

i dont think so.. u could use the telephone cord for dial-up but for a dsl connection i think you have to use a cord similar to a LAN cord.!

You need the cat5 cable for your network card. A phone cord plug is too small and is not the same wireing as a cat5 cable.

Go to Walgreens, they sell cat5 in 7ft. lenghts, or Target or Radio Shack. Be prepaired to spend $7 to $15 depending on where you go.

Telephone cord have RG-11 connectors. Network cables use RG-45 - CAT5 cables. ~

Yes, that will work just fine. One technician advised me that the length of the cord would effect the performance, but I'm using a 25 foot cord & it works just fine.

To connect the DSL modem to the wall plate, a normal phone cord will be just fine, that is what most use anyway. To connect from the modem to the PC has to use a CAT5 cable (or in my case a CAT5 cable to my wireless router and then CAT 5 my base PC.

got_milk_biotch is correct. Standard phone cable (CAT3 with RJ-11 connector) from the wall jack to the MODEM, and an Ethernet cable (CAT5 with RJ-45 connector) from the MODEM LAN port to your PC or router.
