How do you write a telephone number in USA?

I am not from USA and I want to buy something from Ebay but they say that my phone number is not properly formatted (althought I write my country code and everything!). They didn't answer me yet so I am asking you, from your experience, what is the matrix for writing a telephone number in America?

It's a series of 10 numbers, in a group of 3, 3, & 4...like this for example: 123-456-7890

The first 3 are the area code, the remaining 7 is the actual number.

Generally

(###) 000-0000

the ### is the area code in which you are calling.
000-0000 is the number itself.

000-000-0000
but put in your numbers.

Dial the international access code for your country,
then dial the number 1 and then the area code and phone number...for example 1-912-555-5555
1-912(area code)-555-5555(phone number)
