Why do people still have difficulties with telephones and answer phones?

I get calls, and they start with,'It's me, I called you last week.'
I'm supposed to know who 'me' is.
The answer phone is worse. 'It's me, call me back.' No name, no telephone number.

Many people who call me are using a pay phone or have suppressed their number.
My answerphone message is in English. I don't have enough time to give it in German, French and Turkish - the languages I use most.

either they feel close to you and expect you to know them or they are ill-mannered people.

cause they expect you know who it is by looking at your caller id

Possibly that with text messaging and mobile phones, the amount of times we have to use answering machines has decreased.

Or possibly they think they are more significant to you than they actually are, and you should be able to remember what they sound like.

The answer is to change your answer phone message.

Mine says "leave me a message with enough detail so I can contact you back or ring me when I'm in"

I'll be honest. I forget people's name all the time. So if I leave a message and forget their name, I say the same thing.
