How do we set up such a phone system?

How can we set up an auto telephone answering machine to answer and direct callers?

I'm sure you must have encountered an auto answering system when you call a number, especially that from a large company. You will hear something like "Welcome to XXX, please press 1 for English, 2 for French." Then it will continue something like this "Press 1 for something, press 2 for another, else press 9 to end this call."

How do we also connect this to a computer? For example, if we need his password for verification, our phone system may announce "Please key in your password for verification.

How do we accept such inputs from the phone deliver it to the computer for verication.

The automated phone systems that you speak of are known in the industry as Privat Branch Exchanges. I would suggest a VoIP PBX, like those offered by Cisco Systems. Check it out on their website. This system will be expensive, but will provide all of the things you would like.
