Why cant we have secretaries answering phone calls again?

This press button l 2 or 3 is so time wasting. Lets have our secretaries and telephone operators answsering our calls again P L E A S E!!!!

Wouldn't it be great again to actually speak to a human who will just ask what you want , rather than giving you a useless menu system "press 1 for this , press 2 for that".
Quite often too you'll find that your query isnt covered in this menu , damned frustrating.

Because a computer is cheaper than a person, I'm afraid.

No one wants to be a secretary any more. They all insist on being called executive assistants.

Dunno what kind of world you live in but I am a PA and have to answer the phone all the time.

It's nothing to do with us - call centre workers and helpline operators are completely different!

Oh and by the way 'Tao Barbie' Executive Assistant is my job title but I did not choose it, neither like it. We are not called secretaries any more as we don't sit there typing letters all day - we do many organisational things that would probably make your head explode.

My solution is this: I send these people a fax.
I had thought that fax was did with the coming of email. But loads of companies still use fax. Especially companies with expensive call centre numbers and a whole series of menus to go through plus interminable music to keep you on hold.
A fax takes just a minute to type on my PC, and I send it through the PC's modem. So I don't even need a fax machine. It's free for me too, because I am on a package with unlimited calls to land lines (normal numbers only).
The impression I get is that the companes are so surprised at getting a fax that they do actually deal with it quickly.
And they take more notice of a fax than of an email. Must have some kind of an "official" look about it.
