Nuisance telephone calls - for the last year and a half every so often a woman (with an Edinburgh number)?

calls and when I answer immediately (and sarcastically) says 'Sorry wrong number..' - I challenged her after this happened a few times, not challenged as in confronted by rang her back and said 'You have phoned my number a few times, who are you looking for? Whoever it was no longer lives here or has this number can you please take it out of your address book? etc'

Now just received yet another call out of the blue and it is annoying and unsettling - I live alone with my daughter so it cannot be for a partner etc and I definately do not know who she is.

My phone company is talk talk - do they have a nuisance call number or what else can I do - can I block her number from calling? Thanks - it is just wierd she keeps doing it..

You can block incoming withheld calls just by ringing your provider, if its really bad i think talktalk have a pest caller block, ring them up toomorrow, explain the situation and im sure they will help, if they dont threaten to leave.

I blocked all withheld numbers as i used to get annoying calls from india trying to sell everything under the sun.

Good luck

Regards, Gaz

This has been going on for 18 months and you've put up with it? Change your phone number!

Are you married or living with a partner? sounds like he has given his number to someone.. if this has just started again after some time has your other half rekindled the affair?

Does he ever work away? Go on weekend breaks? No necessarily to Edinburgh but maybe he met someone elsewhere

Log the date and time of each call.
Give the log to the police.
They will pay a visit and have words.
It doesn't matter if the number is withheld, they stil lknow who it was.

My mother used to keep older folks in her home. One of the ladies slipped and dialed a number that had belonged to her mom (whom had been dead for several years). When it showed up on her phone bill she had to block the number so she couldn't call it anymore. Check in the front of your phone book for instructions on how to do that. Those kind of calls can be so aggravating. Good luck. Sure hope this helps.

I sympathise - I used to get an old lady calling me all the time. She was confused & couldn't dial properly, poor thing.

Later I used to get a lot of calls from people mis-dialling a pizza takeaway place. After a while I used to just take their orders and say "it'll be ready in 10 minutes & you get 2 free cans with that order."

Well done confused just add to her worries by saying her husband is having an affair.

Contact Talk Talk and tell them what is going on, they can give you a new tel number, go ex directory and only give your new number to those that eed it and those you trust. It is probably someone just making a pest of themselves but as it has gone on for so long you should contact the police.

Contact Talk Talk, Smiley.I've given you their contact link.Don't put up with this.

been there. try telling people you know, when they call let the phone ring three times then hang up and ring properly. this woman will soon get sick of her call not being answered and give up.

My mum had a similar problem but with an elderly lady who seemed genuinely confused and kept mis-dialling night and day. I got BT to block this individual's tel no and there's been no problem since.

I'm sure talk talk will have a similar service.

I have had a similar problem in the past, It is possible to purchase a incoming call reciever so you can see the persons number who's ringing, however I expect they will probably be doing what someone did to us and putting 141 in front of the number so it blocks it.

If you can get the number this way you can give it to the police who can trace the originator of the call.

The alternative is to change your number and go ex directory which is what we had to do eventually.

I dont mean to worry you but it is concerning that someone seemingly without motive is harrassing you and your daughter. I would make the police and neighbours aware of the situation and seek support from talk talk.
