How does the telephone affect the environnement? (positive & negative)?

I hope everyone could help me with this one..
I've been searching really hard for this & plus theres other questions i have to research and again i really can't fine them!!! I hope you could give me a precise answer !!!

positive:
can reduce gasoline usage (talking on the phone versus driving to someone's house)
can reduce paper usage (calling someone instead of writing letters)

negative:
cell phone batteries can leak chemicals while other phones that are thrown away just take up space in landfills
the process of making the plastic probably emits pollutants
