Why do telephone numbers have 7 digits?

Because they use to be six numbers until there were too many phones

Not all telephone numbers have 7 digits. International one's have 10 if I'm not mistaken.

What's the point of asking this? If the digits were eight, you would still ask this question. Eventually, it has to be SOME digit, so seven was randomly chosen. Understand?

because you first have the area code which tells the phone which state to dial then the city code and then the persons phone #. you think that is bad you should try calling out of the country.

Because the population of people is increasing and each person should have a "code" for calling that specific person. It is easier to remember things 7 or less. Also, 7 is a lucky number that could be another reason. Theres the area code too.

not all phone numbers have seven digits..i have eight. if the phone company runs out of numbers they give you another.

well idk really but its 7 if the 1st 3 #'s r the same as ur's liek if ur's is 713 & the # callin' is 713-???-????? it well just leave 713 out of it u no... sry if its confusing

They don't. It depends on where you live. The number differs all over the world. If you had a population of ten people, you'd only need 1 digit. If you had a population of 100, you'd only need two digits. And so on.
